Egg production breaks record in 2023 in Brazil

Brazil’s poultry sector is celebrating a significant milestone in 2023 as the country achieves an impressive record in egg production in the first quarter. With 1.02 billion dozen eggs produced in that period, Brazil continues to consolidate its position as one of the largest producers and exporters of commercial eggs in the world. In this article, we will explore the impressive numbers by region, as well as the outlook for commercial egg exports in this exceptional year.

Egg Production by Region

Southeast region:

Southeast Brazil remains the undisputed leader in commercial egg production. In the first quarter of 2023, the region accounted for more than 60% of national production, with an average of 620 million dozen eggs. São Paulo and Minas Gerais continue to be the main producing states.

South region:

Southern Brazil has also seen a notable increase in egg production. With a total of approximately 210 million dozens in the first quarter, the states of Paraná and Santa Catarina stood out as the main contributors in this region.

Midwest and Northeast Regions:

The Midwest and Northeast regions contributed 110 million and 80 million dozens, respectively, to total production. Mato Grosso and Bahia played essential roles in the production of these regions.

North region:

Although with more modest numbers compared to other regions, the North Region produced around 10 million dozen eggs in the first quarter, with Pará leading the production in this area.

Export of Commercial Eggs in 2023:

In addition to meeting domestic demand, Brazil has been expanding its commercial egg exports in 2023. With record production, the country is uniquely positioned to supply high quality eggs to the international market. Some of the top export destinations include:

South American countries:

Neighboring countries such as Argentina, Uruguay and Chile have been traditional destinations for Brazilian exports of commercial eggs. The geographical proximity and quality of Brazilian products continue to drive this trade.

European markets:

European Union countries have also shown a growing interest in Brazilian eggs. Exports to this region have been increasing as European consumers look for healthy and sustainable alternatives.

Middle East and Asia:

The Middle East and some Asian countries have shown promise for exports of Brazilian eggs. The quality and competitiveness of Brazilian products are key factors in this expansion.

The record production of 1.02 billion dozen eggs in the first quarter of 2023 places Brazil at the center of the global scenario for the production and export of commercial eggs. With solid performance across all regions of the country and growing interest from international markets, the future of the Brazilian poultry sector looks bright. A commitment to quality and sustainability remains key to the continued success of this vital industry.
