In just 5 months, egg exports in 2023 have already surpassed the entire previous year.

Brazil’s egg exports are on the rise, and the impressive figures released by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) are a testament to the sector’s success. According to recent data, egg exports, including fresh and processed products, reached a notable milestone in the first five months of 2023.

In the period between January and May this year, Brazil exported a total of 11,950 tonnes of eggs, marking a notable increase of 93.1% compared to the same period the previous year, when exports reached 6,187 tonnes.

This explosion in exports was also reflected in terms of revenue. International egg sales generated an impressive US$29.670 million in the first five months of 2023, representing an impressive 165.8% increase over the same period in 2022, when revenue was US$11.164 million.

The most notable thing is that, in just five months, Brazil has already surpassed the volume exported throughout the year 2022, when exports totaled 9,474 tons. The same phenomenon occurred in terms of revenue, with a total of US$22.4 million in 2022, now surpassed by the extraordinary performance of 2023.

The May 2023 data is equally impressive. Brazilian egg exports reached 4,346 tons this month alone, representing a surprising increase of 592% compared to the 628 tons exported in May 2022. In terms of revenue, there was an impressive increase of 429.4%, with US$10.069 million in May this year, compared to US$1.902 million in the same period the previous year.

Luis Rua, markets director at ABPA, highlights the importance of maintaining the flow of trade and expanding associated markets to strengthen the egg sector’s export position. He also emphasizes diversifying the import client portfolio as a fundamental strategy.

Japan is the main destination for Brazil’s egg exports, importing 4,980 tons this year (January to May), an extraordinary increase of 1,190% compared to the same period in 2022, which registered 386 tons. Next is Taiwan, with 3,594 tons (there were no exports to this destination in 2022). Sales to the United States also stood out, with 458 tons exported, representing a significant increase of 83.2%.

This notable growth in Brazil’s egg exports demonstrates the country’s potential as an important player in the global egg market, in addition to highlighting the quality and competitiveness of Brazilian products.
